Subject: I WON THE MEGAMILLION!
I met my husband in January and his birthday is in early March. I got tickets to see a jazz performer he liked and a cake. He loved it.

This is a great idea. I think the hotel/lingerie idea seems weird. I don't know why you would want to stay in a local hotel, unless it's a super special hotel, and then really, 4 months is too early for that. And lingerie? You could wear that any night. Take him to a sporting event and later on, reveal the lingerie. Done.
Redskins tickets are apparently on deep discount. If you can stomach football.

He will likely remember the hotel and lingerie the rest of his life. But there’s a good possibility that in a year he’ll recall that night while dating someone else.
If you want to do from the sheer desire to celebrate him, go for it. Just know that it isn’t an investment in your future. 4 months is too early for anything to matter except a kidney donation.

Hotel could be good but I’m curious - why are you thinking a night away? Kids and you want privacy? You live super far from Alexandria so it’s a cool night away? If you don’t have a specific reason - it sounds to me like something a girl would like more than a guy (fantasy suite from The Bachelor?).
I tried to do that stuff when I was in my early 20s with my husband (then boyfriend) and he appreciated the effort and found it sweet - but honestly, he really would have been just as happy without it. It’s not wrong to do, but recognize that you are probably doing it more for you than it being the thing he really wants that will make a difference in how special his birthday feels. If you have lingerie - he will be happy regardless of the hotel, restaurant, etc.

I’d like to hear from other people’s experiences. If you have been in a similar situation, (early relationship- birthday) and somebody did (or you did) something simple, yet very thoughtful for you, that you still remember. Please share! I’d like to get some ideas.
I was thinking about a DC cruise dinner or staying overnight at one of those downtown (Alexandria) hotels, champagne, nice lingerie, and you know!
