POTS

Blood sugar may not be normal. That's a more common issue that leads to fainting. I'd also explore eating disorder possibility.

Less commonly, seizure disorder especially with feeling hot before it occurred.

Sometimes a weird spike in hormones can cause a very temporary blood pressure drop hence the fainting (or sometimes dizziness, light headed).

I would get a full blood work up ion her.

I get like this often and after testing realized I am hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and need to eat smaller meals throughout the day.

Or vasovagel syncope.

I would definetly see a doctor, just to rule things out.

+1

I would be concerned about a cardiac issue. Or a vasovagal issue with an undetermined cause.

Did the doctor do an EKG? They are cheap and fast and a place to start.

Trying any wacky weight-loss diets? When I was 14 I tried low-carb and nearly fainted on day 3 of it.

No heavy periods... could be anemic... hasn't had blood work lately.

She doesn't eat red meat but is otherwise eating regular foods, not low carb. I saw her breakfast this morning, it was a normal amount of food (cereal and milk) but doctor suggested eating something higher in protein. We'll try that.

Not out of the realm of possibility... but she didn't report racing heartbeat or shortness of breath... said he breathing was fine. Didn't report any anxiety about anything (and she will report that if she's feeling it)

Panic attack?

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Daughter age 14 *almost* fainted today while seated about halfway through 3rd period class. No trigger she can think of; class was just normal stuff, nothing to make her swoon. No sudden pain. She had eaten breakfast and drinks a lot of water. She wasn't standing up suddenly or anything like that. She's not ill, no fever, normal weight and blood pressure.

Just was sitting, paying attention to classwork and she said she felt a rush of heat, started sweating profusely, and the world went dark -- couldn't hear or see for about a minute or two, put her head down on her desk and came back after a few minutes. Felt ok after about 20 minutes.

(I did take her to the pediatrician who suggested maybe she was dehydrated so try to drink more.)

Just wondering if this has happened to other kids or adults for that matter? I know for sure I have never just suddenly felt faint while minding my own business sitting in a meeting or something.
