My sympathies - losing a beloved pet is very hard especially in such an abrupt and traumatic way. Let yourself grieve - don’t feel like you have to hurry out of your grief.

I am so sorry OP. This is a huge fear of mine and we have had near misses before.

Please know that it’s only by sheer luck that this doesn’t happen more often. I am just so sorry. She was loved and had a wonderful life.

I definitely suggest reaching out to a group for support or even keeping a journal.

OP I am so sorry for your loss and the trauma you suffered seeing your dog being hit by a car. Did the driver stop?

I 2nd the PP's suggestion about Lab Forums. You are not alone although seeing your dog hit makes it worse than most I would think.

What an awful tragedy. There are some good online forums for dog owners coping with loss, eg, Lab Forums. You have a road of healing ahead of you.

No joke, if you go to a temple or church you can reach out to the rabbi or minister.

I'm jewish and when our dog died my mom took me to our temple and the rabbi said a special mourner's prayer for our dog.

She slipped through an opening in the front door, and took off. I am wrecked with guilt and pain over the loss of her - she was only 2. I have had to say goodbye to other dogs before in the past, but never had something so sudden and traumatic happen in this way. Has anyone been through anything similar? I don’t know what to do or where to go from here.
