This is strange.
No, it's not strange. I'm originally from Canada, it's perfectly normal at this time of year. Plus, I don't care for Amercian Thanksgiving. Never will. People in my MoCo neighborhood had their Christmas lights up during the last week of October.
+1 another Canadian here. I guess some of it is regional, but I can say that even growing up in the 80s, we always decorated, etc. around the second week of November. So no, decorating early isn’t new. We either went to or watched the Toronto Santa Claus Parade and would put up the tree that weekend. We follow suit in our house now.
One of our friends gets up super early on Nov.1 and decorates so the house is ready when her kids get up (they do the tree together, but she puts up the garland on the stairs, for example). No one thinks she is weird. Because of the weather, many people and businesses have their lights up already, although a lot of people don’t turn them on until after Nov. 11 (Remembrance Day).
FWIW, there are been studies that show decorating early is good for your mental health. (No, I’m not going to find the actual scholarly article, as I’m not bothered either way).
