I went from a 3 to a 4 and it’s a noticeable difference. I like having a lot more faces to choose from, the GPS pace when I run updates faster and seems a little more accurate, and the later the series you get, the longer it will support upgrades or get new faces with updates. If the choice was upgrading from a 4 to a 5, for me, the always on display and compass wouldn’t be enough of a draw and I’d stick with the 4.

What would you be upgrading from? I just bought one to replace my first generation Apple Watch which was before series one and could not install the last several iOS updates, so I would read about some cool Apple Watch feature and then find out my watch couldn’t do whatever it was.
I got a pretty good price on it so it wasn’t too much more than a series 4 would have cost. I’ve only had it a few days so I haven’t really played with it too much to figure out the differences, but I know the health and fitness features are more robust for sure, and I like that it’s waterproof.
My first generation watch still works fine, so I may see if my mom wants it.
