I am a Fed employee living in MD, considering getting CareFirst for IVF. But can I ask why you kept both insurances? Why not just switch to the MD exchange PPO?

Everyone I know that has switched to Maryland for the IVF benefits, has encouraged it. We are dual fed employees and currently deciding on whether one or both of us should switch to a Maryland plan for IVF. We are a same sex couple and both over 35, so we aren’t sure who would ultimately carry and it has been pretty confusing. If one remains in the FEH. and the other does a Carefirst plan, it still works out cheaper than current costs. Good luck to all!

Thank you! That’s good to hear. We already have all the testing complete so I know it’s going to be painfully long waiting for the authorization.

Hello. We live in Maryland and are planning on purchasing a private, individual plan thru Carefirst for IVF next year. For those of you who have this, has it been difficult getting the insurance company to cover the procedures? I know they are covered, but in terms of submitting documentation, pre auths, etc., how has the experience been?

I’m hoping this can help alleviate some financial stress during this time so trying to educate myself as best as possible. Thanks all!
