They are always old carrots that are cut down. Taste like dirt every time we bought them.

I find they always feel wet. As long as it's clear and not cloudy liquid I dry them off with a paper towel. If they taste ok I eat them. If they don't I toss them. I used to be able to find a bag or two that weren't soaking wet but that's getting harder to find. I started just buying whole carrots and peeling them and cutting them into sticks. I think they taste better but it's more work.
