I ask you this, when did the DA start and do you see that as sufficient time to produce professional players?

The answer is NO

Different poster, but I'm curious as to why you are so invested in slamming the DA? I don't know why the OP is asking this question, but assume the question were phrased as follows:

"I have a really talented 13 year old son, who has a US passport only. We can move anywhere in the country to support his soccer dreams. What would you suggest?"

Wouldn't you recommend that this poster look into seeing if her kid can play DA at FC Dallas, Philadelphia Union, Seattle Sounders, etc? Like it or not, some DA programs are cranking out teen pros at a decent rate.

Seems to me he was not slamming DA, he was making excuses for it not producing pro players.

DP. It didn't sound like he was making excuses. It sounded like he doesn't like the DA as a concept.

Oops. My bad. There are so many people on here who trash the DA that I just made an assumption.

Sneak across the border into Mexico.

DA was formed in 2007 or 12 years ago. Considering that in theory DA starts at U13, 6 years is the maximum amount of time DA can invest to develop a talented 12 year old player into an 18 year old player who is ready to break into a good professional club. I also think that a good academy could develop a talented 14-15 year old into a professional player with proper training. We have 6 to 9 years of DA graduates to consider.

The "Youth Yanks Abroad" and other threads under this heading on Big Soccer are a good resource: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forums/youth-national-teams.255/ There are a lot of folks there who exhaustively track young American pros and their movements.

Not even so sure I would go that far.

The DA generally consolidates talent to a large extent. That's about it.

Does that mean they are good at identifying talent? Not really. They just have the luxury of being able to pick from the best talent pool, because that pool comes to them by virtue of the status given them by US Soccer. From that pool, they tend to disproportionately select - and then disproportionately give opportunities to - early physical developers. There are a lot of players with more talent and understanding of the game - and who shows signs that athletically they will eventually catch up - who are left out.

Do they provide better training? Again I'd have to say no. If the training environment is better it's mostly because of the player pool, not the coaching.

Is the DA better than what came before it? No question. All in all it's still a huge disappointment though.

+1. Has nothing to do with DA either. It’s a credit to FCD’s system.

If you read about how Pulisic rose to the level he is at right now, his DA training played a role in his development, but he had unique opportunities to live and train elsewhere.

What DA program has the best track record in producing professional players? When I refer to professional players, I mean players that are good enough to play in a good European league. I know Pulisic played for PA classics, but is there a DA program that is known for producing quality players?
