I've spent a bunch of time searching all the 2020 DC Fed plans and while none cover IVF, CareFirst BlueChoice Standard/HDHP and all Kaiser plans included IVI, ICI, and IUI.

Keep in mind that the CareFirst benefit is limited to 6 attempts per live birth.

SG honors a negotiated rate through Aetna for FET, but it doesn't sound like you are at that point yet.

It’s more than just FET. They honor a negotiated rate for IVF cycles and other treatments and procedures too. It’s like getting a 30-50% discount. We saved a boatload by switching from federal BCBS to the Aetna HMO because our IVF and subsequent FET at shady grove were so much less.

Some of the carefirst plans cover iui with a copay.

I think Aetna used to, don’t know if they still do. When we were trying the insurer wanted us to go through so many hoops (extra IUIs etc) that we gave up. Then our meds were supposed to be covered but when I went to pick them up they told me they had misquoted me and they were $1k more than expected but I wasn’t going to skip a cycle arguing over that either (obviously we were pretty lucky that we could swing that).

In the end it worked out for us and I am sending you (as best I can) good wishes it works out for you too!!

The federal plans all stopped covering IVF 2-3 years ago, so the experiences some of us may have had before that will no longer be relevant.

Actually I remember switching my health insurance plan to one that worked better when I was doing fertility treatment. I don't remember what it was though, and things change from year to year, so I'm not sure how helpful that would be anyway. I feel like there was some tool on the fed health plan website that let you compare the health plans on provided benefits. This was a few years ago so sorry for not remembering the specifics. On the fertility treatment costs, remember it's not just the procedures but also the drugs.

I am a federal employee and open season is upon us. We have been trying to conceive a second child without any luck so far. I am 38 and would like to start exploring RE / fertility treatment options, and with open season upon us, I thought it would be a good opportunity to hear about insurance plans that cover fertility issues available to feds. Any plans you are particularly happy with?
