If my kid were out of school for a week, there would have been a hospital visit involved. Agree with the above that my kid would have been in school Thursday and Friday last week.

My son has an asthma variant that results in 10 weeks of coughing with a cold.

Fortunately a cough alone isn’t a good reason to keep a kid home, or we would have to homeschool.

If people actually heeded this rule 75% of kids would be out of school from December - March.

I’d send them. Work on “cough into your elbow!”, but yea, kids with coughs go to school/daycare.

Absolutely. Coughs can last for a couple of weeks.

Yes, I would send them. Those coughs can linger for a long time, but it doesn't mean they are contagious.

Absolutely send them. They can learn with a cough.

I would have sent them on Thursday and Friday unless they were acting listless.

Send them tomorrow.

Both kids (3 yrs, 5 yrs) caught a cold starting early last week. One puked on Monday morning (mostly mucous) but never a fever, and the other had a temp on Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday they were both fine, but we kept them out the rest of the week because their coughs sound so awful!

Right now they need an occasional tissue, and they still have that darn cough. They haven't had a fever or vomiting in over 6 days, and have otherwise been in great spirits.

I just feel bad sending them with this cough if they're contagious. On the flip side, if I keep them out just for the cough, they might be out another week or two!

I am trying to be conscientious because I absolutely hate when people send their sick kids to school, but I feel like keeping out at this point might be overdoing it.

Thoughts?
