umm no. Police don't do reports that occur on private property. Its handled by insurance.

What on earth? Why would you think that?

Because I am a Police dispatcher and I take many calls a day. We don't do reports for accidents on private property and we don't do hit and run reports unless there suspect info like a plate or someone left a note for you.
You pay insurance to handle these things.

It's state dependent. I'd still call the police.

dp - interesting but makes sense i suppose. op is saying the other person provided fake info... isn't that enough for cop to get involved?

They won't come. All you can do is hand it over to your insurance at this point.

File a claim of uninsured motorist with your insurance.

Just know that when you go to sell the car/trade it in someday, it will come up on the Carfax as having been in an accident.

Call police but not 911. This is clearly not an emergency.

1st, call your insurance company. Provide all of the photos and the fake ID. If they say you need to, take your photos into a police department.

I wouldn’t tell them that you already got an estimate though. Hopefully it hasn’t been a long time. $2k is too much to pay out of pocket when you weren’t at fault so contact your insurance right away.

Do you have comprehensive car insurance? What is your deductible in this scenario? Mine would be $0 so I’d just call my insurance and tell them exactly what happened.

Should've called the police and made a police report right there.

Call your insurance company and give them the lic plate of the other car.
This is what you pay them for.
