Exactly. You can spank your children here in the US but not in Scandinavia. Or the government will step in. That's how they do it there.

And the homeschooling stuff in OP's articles, that just sounds silly. If you're not allowed to homeschool in your country, then you're not allowed. Conforming is more valued in some countries than child prodigies.

+1 In Norway, physical punishment of children is against the law and they also happen to have a very low rate of children who die from child abuse.

Similar things happen in the US too. They're just rare and I'm sure they're rare in Norway.

My cousin's baby was taken from their family. He had a rare brain bleed that resembled abuse. Doctors were convinced he was being shaken and abused at home. Once CPS got involved the family really couldn't do anything. Even once brain specialists got involved, CPS wouldn't back off. It took 2 years of legal battles (for which they sold their home and liquidated retirement accounts) to get their son back. By that time he was really sick and didn't recognize them. The dad also lost his job because he was a teacher and the abuse report triggered something.
