It means that when there's two parents and two kids, each parent takes responsibility for a kid.

With three, you can't do that.

This is what people mean.

Apparently these people work exactly the same hours as their spouse and neither of them have any hobbies, so they are always home together.

You're not really asking, you're bragging about what a good mom you are because 3 kids is a breeze and la dee da.

Here's your medal, OP. Thread over.

But it’s a stupid brag. She had her third baby when her oldest was 8 and middle child was 4! At those ages kids can get themselves buckled and in/out of the car, nobody’s going to be running off in a parking lot. The oldest can even help with many tasks.

This is a stone deaf as someone with a college age kid and a toddler saying they never experienced sibling rivalry because they’re such amazing parents.

Your kids are young, that's why you aren't relating yet. Once they are older and start having parties and school concerts and sports practice and dance recitals to attend, you'll see - you want a parent at everything or to take them where they need to go, but you'd need a third adult to do so.

This. I have three tweens. Say they have three activities scheduled at the and time. We only have two parents in our family. So we can’t take all three to their activities. That’s when we carpool.

I assume it means that when they are little - like 2, 4 and 6 - you can’t take them out by yourself and have them hold your hands in parking lots. If a stomach bug goes around, you and your partner can only comfort 2 kids at a time and someone is left puking alone and calling for help. If your kids all have activities on the same night, parents are only driving to 2 of them and one kid has to car pool or doesn’t have a parent watch his game.

I have 2 who are 19 months apart and am expecting another who will be 3.5 years younger than kid 2. I totally feel out numbered lol. I will have 3 kids 5 and under.

Your 9 year-old I'm sure can do simple tasks, as well as your 5 year-old. Heck, I bet the 9 year old could even change a diaper. So the burden isn't as bad as say someone who has 3 that are 1-2 years apart.

The age gaps make a HUGE difference. I only have 2 kids, but they’re 2 years apart. So when I had a newborn I was still changing the 2 year olds diapers and she couldn’t just get herself out of the car seat. At the ages your kids are your 9 year old is independent and probably helpful. I’m
Glad you’re not feeling outnumbered—sounds like the age gaps are working well for you.

Mother of 3 but I never feel “outnumbered” as in I don’t feel like I’m chasing more children than I could catch. Our age gaps are all four years apart (1, 5, 9) though so maybe it’s referencing younger ages or those more close in age?

When you say you feel “outnumbered” what do you mean exactly?
