I kept checking the patient portal for my practice and finally saw the test pop up in results (a week and 2 days after I took it). It took a decent amount of scrolling before I saw the sex. I was in my office and blurted out, “I knew it! It IS a boy”. So basically my office knew before SO. He didn’t care. He was concerned about a healthy baby and knowing the sex made no difference to him so he was cool with not being the first to know.

To hijack a bit: for this baby we've agreed to not find out the sex (dh's preference, I got my way last time). During the scans, do they tell you to turn away if you can see something? Is it possible I can look closely and try to guess?

I’m the previous poster who had Dr. Lee. Just to clarify, we wanted to find out with my daughter (second child, over the “surprise” aspect) so I was fine with her emailing me, and I believe I explicitly told her I wanted to know. With my son, the report out was really anti-climactic, but it was over in a second and fine.

In the anatomy scan, they’ll respect your wishes and have you turn away/close your eyes during their examination of the key area.

Last time I found out my midwife called me to go over the results and asked if I wanted to know the sex. I thought a provider had to review the results with you before releasing it? This was the harmony test so maybe it's different.

I viewed the results on LabCorp and was on the phone w my husband and told him that the result was XY. We could have waited until we got home and looked together, but we were both too excited and we wanted to know as soon as possible.

How long did it take after the blood draw to get the results?

Depends on the test. The qnatal I got results back on the 5th biz day. My friend just did the same test, same practice and it took almost 2 weeks for her results.

Sorry I don't remember. Under a week I believe

I did the counsyl test, which as a nice website that actually obscures the results until you click a "yes I really do want to see them" link. The genetic counselor told me over the phone or by email (I don't remember which) that the results were in and normal. My husband was with me when I logged into counsyl's website after work and clicked the link so that we could see the sex of our baby together.

OP here - thanks for that... that's accidentally what I was picturing happening and it seemed so... anticlimactic?? Or maybe unfair that i would know before DH? I'm surely overthinking this, however.

If you want to make it special, open it at a nice dinner or together at your house.

I'm pretty sure if you can see the blood results on a portal, the sex will be listed as well. My wife was checking her NIPT results for our second baby after three consecutive losses and accidentally found out he was a boy.

Maybe this is the dumbest question ever. For my first pregnancy, finding out the sex was not offered as part of the NIPT testing, so we found out in the 20 week ultrasound, together. This time, I'll get the result from the NIPT. I am assuming this result will come as a test result in my Kaiser Permanente app... anyone have experience with this? Is it rolled into a bunch of other results? I'm wondering if I should not open any blood test results until I'm with DH, or if we'll get a call from a genetic counselor, or what? What have others done to make this a "joint" surprise with your partner? Thanks!
