We just bought a 2019 Outback Limited (higher trim line than Premium) for $30.5K in September. OTD price was about $33K once you factored in taxes, license, titling, etc.

I’ve paid exactly the “internet special this weekend only Presidents’ Day discount” price and felt entirely fine about it. It depends on the car and 50 other factors.

This. When I worked on the car lot it really mattered on what our particular inventory looked like. I worked Toyota and there were some models (Camry, highlander, corolla, Prius) that we really never negotiated on beyond a certain point. We just didn't need to. Other models were rare and we didn't have many but maybe they were niche cars and we also didn't negotiate much on (4 runner, solaria) even though you may be looking at something thats been on our lot awhile. The models you could really get a deal on were a.) basic stripped models (everyone wants the mid upgrade or the highest upgrade, no one wants base) 2.) models that the body was due to significantly change the next year bc you're car will look "old fast" and people want to wait just one more year to get the latest. 3.) models that don't sell well but don't fit a niche market...when I was there it was Yaris (for a few bucks more just get a corolla...a much nicer car) and tacoma (for a few bucks more get a tundra...a much nicer truck.

So my point is we need to know make and model to really help.

Pick the exact car you want, use the online contacts to three dealers located a bit away from eachother and start a bidding war.

What model car? What model year?

Have you looked at true car and Costco auto buying and car guru?

p.s. that's their "internet discount" price. Another dealer is offering a lower base price but the total out the door is the same.
