I buy chocolates in Whole Foods- they have a good assortment there. I'm originally from Europe and cannot eat Hershey and other chocolates from regular grocery stores. I shop in my local European store for sweets in general.

Neuhaus is pretty solid. Belgian brand, very few locations in the US, but one at Union Station.

There's a store on Connecticut called Chocolate Chocolate. You can buy individual truffles and they have some smaller bars, so sampling doesn't have to cost a fortune.

There's also Neuhaus at Union Station-- I'm sure it's not as cheap as you can get in Europe but it certainly is tasty!

Now I'm going to have to try all the chocolates other people have mentioned. I really hear you about how it seems like an entire bar isn't enough -- the itch hasn't been scratched enough.

And I agree that Godiva is yucky.

Go to the European shops. I get alot of interesting chocolate at work. The givers said they got it from Euro stores.

Godiva isn't worth it. Maybe it was back in the day -- I remember it being considered "fancy" chocolate when I was a kid and wasn't available everywhere. Now any Macys in America has Godiva boxes sitting at the cash register. Plus it is now owned by Campbell's soup co. -- a co. that it used to making products that can sit on shelves forever isn't thinking fine chocolate products.

I too am a chocoholic! Scharfen Berger is amazing! I think Hershey recently bought them, but the taste and quality of their chocolate has not changed as far as I can tell. Godiva is not that good.

I personally really like See's, but that's a very different type of chocolate than the French style chocolate. I think See's is more reminiscent of the Swiss style chocolates -- more milky. When I eat fancy French chocolates, they always seem too bitter to me.

Hi all

I have a chocolate addiction. I recently returned from France and brought back some chocolates from a local shop. They were incredible, not even that expensive (less than 1 euro apiece for chocolate truffles) and not overly sweet. One small piece also was very satisfying. It was enough to make me happy for the whole day (vs my usual chocolate snacking habit of maybe 3-7 pieces of the little Dove bars or Chocolove). Husband loved it too, and he usually doesn't eat any sweets at all.

I'm thinking I need to start buying good really chocolates. I haven't had Godiva chocolates in awhile, so I'm thinking of getting some. but I can't remember if they were worth the price. I seem to remember that they were also pretty sweet.

Can you recommend your go to chocolates that are very rich, but not too sweet?

In the past, I've also tried the better brands you can get from grocery stores like Equal Exchange, Chuao, Chocolove, Scharffenberger, and they are decent... but I always want to eat the whole bar.
