OP here-- thanks! I appreciate hearing about your experiences. We have an appointment at Children's for Dec. -- due to his age, only Dr Hsieh can evaluate him so there is a wait.
PP, at first my son was embarrassed to talk about it...he first brought up the subject by texting me from a different room when we were both home . Now he is ok talking face to face. I told him I was happy he told me-- I agree it's better to see a doctor now at this age.

I just want to congratulate OP for having such a good relationship with her son that he told her about this. I dated (briefly) a guy in college with this problem who refused to acknowledge it was a problem. I hope that he saw a doctor after we broke up because he clearly wasn’t dealing with it in a rational manner when we dated.

There is a condition, called phimosis, which is what he may be describing.

My son was not circumcised, born in UK and dad is not, so we just didn't think much about it.

The phimosis started when he was about 7. Everything was normal until then. Doc did prescribe some cream that might help, but said it also might not. It did not. At 8, he had the surgery with Dr. Rushton at Children's.

Don't discount what he may be going through. It can be painful, and it can lead to problems (infection).

Good luck!

Hi --my 14 yo son is not circumcised, and just told me that he wants to have a circumcision performed. He said that he has been having some issues with pain from tight foreskin. My internet research tells me that this is normal and there are treatments to try before having a surgery, but my son is having none of it. I personally am anti-circumcision, and this surgery is not without risks, so I would like him to have the opportunity to talk to an even-handed urologist who can explain his options and the risks of circumcision, and hopefully get him to try creams, stretching, etc. If anyone has a recommendation, I would greatly appreciate it. We are in Mo Co but would go to DC or VA if necessary. Thanks for any help!
