($20/hr. is for a nanny.)

Pretty cheap for a nanny! My college daughter gets $20/hr. For New Year's she gets $35/hr with a six hour minimum. She turns down jobs all the time. We live in McLean.

Hs girls charge about $13 per hour in our neighborhood. Awake or asleep.

I pay a teen $12 an hour in moco. I don't need a certified preschool teacher with a degree in early education to watch my kid for date night.

OP here- I can afford it. And I was just mentioning that my baby will be asleep but thanks- that was super helpful!
Still wondering how much to pay a babysitter if anyone wants to answer kindly.

Does she need to be there when your child is asleep? If do, the same amount you pay when she is awake. Truly stupid question asked by a cheap person. Do you really think you can get away with telling her that you will pay $15/hr for waking hours and $9/hr for sleeping hours?

I remember being a teen babysitter and thinking that I’d do the sleeping gigs for free because they always had better cable package than my parents and I didn’t have to share the Tv with my parents. But I guess teens nowadays don’t have those issues.

OP, you should expect to pay $15-$20 per hour, depending on level of experience. You'll have some outliers who charge more/less.

Suggestion to OP, if child is asleep consider hiring a high school babysitter. I have a wide range of sitters from 14 years old to a regular 'nanny' for week day coverage. I pay the high schoolers less than the regular nanny. One of the high schoolers started with us when she was 14, we went out for 1-2 hours at a time to start slow with a toddler. We trust her and love her, she has been super with our young child.

In DC: Had been $20 or a little more when our children were younger and sitters were older (typically just out of college); now kids are older and sitters are high school aged, so $15 or a bit more.

I asked our babysitter her rate and that's what we pay. $18/hr.

Baby awake or asleep, doesnt matter. I honestly prefer to put DS to bed myself and then just have the babysitter in the house just in case. Happy to pay her so DH and I can get out a few nights a year!
