I remember getting coached on how to play under various different conditions.
The most fun was when the ball would literally get stuck in the mud and you were up against another player trying to get it out and also slide tackles in the mud!!
I also remember 'dust bowls'. Dry fields with hardly any grass and the wind blowing dirt everywhere.
My older sister did tear her ACL on a grass field with the grass way too long when she was 17. It was pretty gruesome.
I still have memories of cleaning my cleats that literally were encased in mud after some games. It was best to let it dry completely and then bang them furiously. I also polished them meticulously with leather protector.
