ADP only lasts a few years, and some kids will want another option to rec after it ends. Travel lasts a lot longer, and yes, ADP is one pipeline to travel. (as is rec.)

The kids are already being coached at pool practices by coaches who have affiliations with the travel system - so in essence, they are already on that radar. (our ADP pool coach was our travel coach the year we did travel.)

He might not have been a travel coach scouting, though - might have been someone else in the system who had heard about this kid and wanted to say "good game" or something. As a rec coach, I'll occasionally talk to kids from the other team to tell them I enjoyed watching some aspect of their play.

One of the other parents said they thought he might be from the travel program looking into bringing the kid up to travel. Do they do that? They wouldn’t pull a kid up mid-season, would they? He’s the best player on our team, it would really hurt us to lose him.

ASA should be talking to the parents to convince them to shell out thousands for the privilege of playing travel.

They have a hard time filling their many lower teams so maybe kids dropped out mid-season and they need bodies.

This.

They have so many teams per age group in the younger years and kids on lower teams play multiple sports and decide they don’t like soccer anymore or get burned out doing 90 minutes practices 3x per week and traveling for games every weekend and just want to be a kid in elementary school. They need to be able to field teams and collect checks when they start dropping like flies.

Sorry, rooting for the kid more than your team. If the timing and opportunity are there, why not get promoted now?

That's what ADP is for... a feeder for the travel programs
