I'd test when I woke up (7am) and if it looked close, I'd test again at work around 9am or so. Then sometimes at 3pm or in the evening, depending on if I thought the surge was close. I did learn mine is short, only a few hours so that was the best way for me to feel confidant I caught it and was charting/trying correctly. I had years to learn this (sadly).

The package insert should tell you the ideal times. The reality for me was that I didn't want to test at work, so the options were right when I woke up and after I got home. Neither of these are the recommended times but this schedule worked for me the first month.

Have you tried the strips for a while and not had success? If you can test at the recommended times do it. If not, try the less-than-ideal times for a few months and see what happens. If it doesn't work then try testing at the recommended times.

Why? I've always read that it doesn't matter with OPKs

what times?

I'm talking about the cheap ones, not the clearblue advanced that specifies first morning urine.

Thanks!
