In this one their drivers are breeding, heavily-drinking, Catholic school parents who dream of a DE beach house:

Why is this? It seems like a nice, comfortable, capable car and one of the few non-minivan options if you have 3 kids or frequently need to drive ILs around.

A Suburban is a body on frame truck platform vs the unibody of a minivan/ highlander/ pilot SUV.

They weigh almost 1 TON more than a minivan, with more horsepower and less fuel efficient engines.

Sure they are bigger, but we can fit our 3 kids and sports equipment in a sedan. In fact two sedans driving six kids is MORE EFFICIENT than one Suburban driving those same 6 kids and equipment.

If you still need to carpool with all 6, get a normal size minivan or SUV and install a hitch cargo tray and water proof bag — even better keep the awful smelling sports equipment and mud outside of the passenger cabin.

People buy it for status, but it’s wasteful and completely unnecessary.

Oh and people who buy pickup trucks to commute to an office job, yes we hold them in contempt too.

1. Minivans suck.
2. No way anyone is stuffing 3 across in the backseat of a midsize sedan.
3. Look at the cavernous cargo space when the third row is folded up in a "normal-sized" SUV:

I don’t live in DC area so it may not apply, but where I live they’re for moms who have kids in sports and need tons of room for carpooling and equipment.

I thought of the White full-size SUVs as a Catholic mom thing.

The Black ones are working vehicles--cars for hire.

the black SUV looks like a CIA/Govt/Diplomat/UBERX/Limo type of vehicle. thats the stigma I pu ton them when driving.

if you've got a family of four a dog and you vacation a lot, its not any worse than a minivan...

Significantly worse gas mileage than a minivan. No sliding rear doors. A little inconvenient to climb up into and down from. Longer than a minivan so a little harder to park. But huge, spacious, high up, powerful.

But it's the same size as a pickup truck, and ostensibly the owners are using them to transport people around versus "I just want a truck"?

F150:
209-251? L x 80-86? W x 75-79? H

Tundra:

Suburban:

You won't encounter the judginess IRL that you encounter on DCUM. We've owned several Tahoes- they're great cars.

If you search this site for past posts it seems there is a stigma attached to the black Suburban.
