Not OP, but this is helpful, thank you. I am thinking of getting a Tesla X since we are a family of 5 and I could use the extra room, but I was wondering about those falcon doors and if they are a pain, and looks like they are. Maybe I should wait it out for the Y, although I'm going to need a family car sooner than later.

Range, interior display and free supercharging not included. I sat in all of them and it has a more basic feel. It’s like a Sentra and the S is like a big Lexus - or that was how I felt anyway.

We drive from LA to Vegas and only stop once at a supercharger. We just plan to take an hour lunch midway. It works out perfectly. DH is on his second Tesla and says it has spoiled him for any other car. The only cons we have run into is if you get into an accident since you may have to wait a while for parts and the tires are very expensive.

We have one and the range is never an issue. Look at the map of super chargers—they are all up and down the highways and it takes an hour to super charge so we just stop and get a bite. You can also use regular chargers of course. We went to Shenandoah and just used the regular chargers overnight.

And one kid is perpetually car-sick, because unlike other cars, a Tesla does not coast; it decelerates to charge up the battery when you are not accelerating.
Just curious about why you don’t take the Tesla on the 90 mile trip? 90 miles there and even the return trip is well within the car’s range. 30 minutes at a supercharger and you gain back that range. 90 miles would leave a lot of range for running around and even a level 2 station would work to maintain daily needs. Can you plug into level 1 at Mom’s House when you are visiting?

Only good as a commuter car. Range anxiety is real. Car eats miles in the cold and the mountains.

I’m considering the basic model. What are the realities of owning one? Insurance? Your electric bill when you charge at home? It looks like the basic model doesn’t get free supercharging- so how much does it cost when you’re traveling?
