Someone might have been wearing last year's jersey and maybe didn't realize it could cause an issue. Alternately, someone forgot the correct-colored jersey and the other player had an extra to loan out.

We keep last year's jerseys (with different numbers) around in case there's an issue and my kid needs to wear it.

I’ve seen this in DS’ EDP games too so no need to disparage this league. It’s just rude and mean to the kids who play in it.

There are still a handful of people out there trying to push the idea that CCL is an elite league. They make comments like the ridiculous one about NCSL.

Way to show your complete lack of perspective.

Team you played probably has two teams at that age group and brought a player from their other team. That player probably had the same number as someone one the current team. They should of taped it but didn’t. I have seen it before in an NCSL game.

Reffing for 30+ years. So many reasons why it happens. The game is for the players so I don’t care...I can still tell the difference between two players with the same number if I have to do a booking. This is all usually sorted before they begin playing.

The coach or manager should always have white or black electrical tape or duct tape (depending on what color the numbers on back if jersey are) to tape a number in front of another number on the jersey. So if there are 2 players using number 8, one becomes 18 by taping a 1 in front.

Agreed. Somebody probably left the correctly colored jersey at home. Matters not.

2 field players? That should have been caught at check in.

Players should have unique jersey numbers that match the game day roster. Goalkeepers are not required to have a number on their jersey.
