Sante Fe is not a predecessor, its a smaller car.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

Are those good SUVs? Compared to the new ones, are they crappy or about the same in terms of luxury features? I recall reading about the Sorento being "best value" or some such in the past. Have to admit that my interest in the ratings was in passing but now that we are looking to replace a minivan I'd like to understand people's thoughts on the other SUVs.

Our current minivan is aging and with the kids in High school, long road trips are now few and far between (about once a year). We do need a 6 or 7-seater for the occasions wheen we have to haul the family (4 of us) plus a couple of visitors (parents, cousins, etc.). Looking for the best value proposition out there (non-minivan) - must have the latest safety features, connectivity (car play, etc.), high reliability, good warranty, and of course a good discount.

How about getting a smaller vehicle? And then, on the rare occasions when you need a 6 or 7-seater, rent one. You'll still come out ahead financially.
