The teacher may mention something to you, because often parents want teachers to get their child to eat more. I am both a parent and a Early Childhood teacher and have had many parents over the years want us to encourage their child to eat more. You can just explain at the beginning of the year that they shouldn't be surprised if your child doesn't eat much during the day and that is ok as your child gets enough to eat later in the day and that their pediatrician is not concerned (if that is the case).

Agree. A picky kid wouldn’t concern me, but a kid who doesn’t eat because they need control would have me very worried.

I expect the teacher doesn’t know she’s walking into this big issue. Maybe she just sees a student who seems tired or cranky or not as energetic, and wants her to eat to help get through the day.

My son didn’t eat at all at that age. Yes, everyone commented and offered suggestions. His preschool went over and above to work with him. Sometimes it was hard to hear but the comments came out of a place of concern.

I have a picky eater. I never found an ECE who got it. My kid was even above average size and still everyone thought that if more people pushes him to eat, he would. Instead of course it backfired by proving that this was a goo Darren to assert control bc the teacher had revealed how much she cares about it.

You can try saying that you do t want eating comments if any kind but people can’t help themselves. By K though he lunchroom is so insane that no one notices, which is better in a way.

If she is an ECE then she is well aware she is NOT to be encouraging her to eat more.

Is her doctor concerned?

Am I being sensitive? DD5 has always been on the leaner side...her preschool teacher and now indirectly it's been noted by her kindergarten teacher. We feed her! But she has always been picky and I think for her it's a sense of control. Are they all trying to "help" by pointing this out? With her preschool teacher, she sent me an e-mail saying that she would encourage her to eat more in class for snack/lunch. If you have a similar situation, are the teacher's pointing this out?
