If you don't see that happening...then just be at peace and grateful.

The only thing that would make me consider another application or two is the possibility that something could change with the one he got into already. I like to have back up plans.

Why? Just to pad his and your ego? Let others get spots at colleges they want.

I don't agree. With COA reaching 45 (public) - 70k (private) per year, it's no longer kid's decision. It's a family decision. UNLESS, kid is paying 100%.

I would absolutely have him put the applications in and see what happens. He's already into college (congratulations!) so he's over the biggest hurdle. Now the rest will be icing on the cake. You don't want him to feel any regret in a few years because he never tried for anything more.

Can you pay? If answer is yes and he is sure, i don't see why you would.

I would apply to a few more, but perhaps not the one that requires an interview (unless they can do it by skype - I know the one school my kid applied to that required an interview allowed/encouraged skype interviews so as not to only favor people who have the resources to travel). First is that he may change his mind by May when he needs to make the decision so it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of options. Second, if finances are at all an issue maybe one of the others provides merit aid that would be appealing.

He is a current senior. His first choice school is a large state school (not in the DC area) with rolling admissions. It's not very hard to get into, but he has close friends/family that have gone there and has spent a lot of time visiting there--he just feels it is the right fit for him.
Last week he received his acceptance letter!

There are a few other schools he was planning to apply to; he's already sent them his ACT/SAT scores, gone on campus tours, etc. These schools are more selective and the applications are NOT processed on a rolling basis, so he won't hear about decisions on these schools until February or March. Should he still bother to apply, or should he just relax and relish in the fact that the stress of college applications is all over and done for him?
In particular, there is one school that requires an interview, and he does already have it scheduled for a few weeks from now. Attending this interview will require us to travel (by car) several hours and an overnight in a hotel.
