And, soccer parents are so strange and hyper competitive. I just go to games and sit by myself or with DH. We're on a new team this year. Moms love to sidle up and start asking all about my DC; teams played, coaches, other sports, future plans...get over yourselves, parents. And it's the moms. Always the moms.

OP here. We have been very lucky - we are on the “B” team for both kids. The other son, who has been on travel longer, has a great team & team parents. Every one is there to cheer for the kid - not coach them, not criticize them. Really a great group. We’ve had a couple the “A” team kids sub in for us when we were short players a couple times, and those parents are hyper-competitive and - in front of all the kids - were saying what bad players they were. I have no desire for my son to make the “A” team. And as whole, the parents on my son’s team cheer up other kids when they are feeling down. One kid yesterday got chewed out by the coach (he did screw up...) but after the game I made sure to tell him what a great play he had when he did x (not the part where he screwed up). And all the parents are like that.
Being new to this team I don’t know the parent dynamics and want to stay on everyone’s good side. I’m there to cheer for the kids - not create parent drama or gossip on who isn’t playing well. So good advice - I’ll just sit by myself and cheer on the team.

Mom of an ecnl player. Canopy is huge and a great thing to have. It is much hotter in turf and kids benefit greatly. We have had the extra canopy come up and you just make it work for parents. This should not be an argument at all. I would nip this in the bud ASAP or you will have a longggg year and it is still September. Team manager should handle with a group email.

Wait. Let me get this straight. There are grown adults getting ticked off about bring a canopy down from the car and other adults caring that the first parent is ticked off?

My son joined a travel team this past spring. As a family we are not new to travel soccer, but he is and this a new team for us.
He has / had games yesterday and today. I asked the team manager if I could bring a canopy for the kids - he said Larlo’s mom is bringing one Saturday, but bring yours JIC, and definitely on Sunday. So yesterday we go to the game, and did not bring down the canopy from the car initially. The kids were warming up, I did not see Larlo or his mom. The other team had their canopy up. I asked my husband to go ahead and bring our canopy from the car. I see him coming back from the parking lot with the canopy, and there’s literally Larlo’s mom 10 feet in front of him dragging her canopy. They arrive at the team bench at the same time. She sees ours and immediately goes off about how she had dragged it from the car for no reason. My husband quickly said we were the back up canopy, and I explain we didn’t see her and that’s why he brought it down (in hindsight I probably made it worse). My husband suggest we put one over the parents and one over the team bench. She just turns around and drags her canopy back to the car, moaning and making a big deal of it.she glared at us the rest of the game.
So, game today... I’m going to bring the canopy but leave it in the car until I clearly see she is not dragging hers out. But should I attempt to reconcile? How? I don’t think I did anything wrong, and I think her reaction was over the top. But I will have to see her every weekend for the next nine months, so I don’t want to be on her bad side.
