Since you plan on daycare anyway, I would start them earlier.

if you can afford a nanny, I would always go with a nanny. It makes your life infinitely easier. But get a good one and pay her well.

You’re only going to find crappy nannies willing to take such a short job. These are either people who can’t get hired long term or are just starting out and have zero experience. Or some other reason they can’t get hired.

If you want daycare send your kid to daycare.

Good nannies want to work for good families. They don’t want to get attached to a kid and then leave after a month or 2.

Not always true. My friend has a wonderful nanny that helped out for 3 months until her child went to daycare. The nanny was only looking for a temporary job until she started school, which worked out for my friend. I had a co-worker also use a temporary nanny and she was fabulous.

I would use a nanny until he's one, personally. We hope to keep our nanny until our youngest is entering preschool (at almost 3 years old).

A great nanny is the best choice, but for one child, an excellent daycare will likely be cheaper than even a so-so nanny, and would be the better choice. And if you are on a limited budget, and all of your choices kind of suck, at least there is supervision at a daycare.

10:12 and just saw this and agree with this. We go to an excellent in-home and I DO think it's better than an ok nanny for sure. This is a great list! I see some nannies at the park, woof. So it definitely depends on the skill of the nanny. But a great nanny - if you can afford it, is probably best for an infant.

I have a kid in daycare, and I think he's doing well and thriving - but I would choose nanny if i could afford it and had a 3 month old. That first year of daycare when they are that little is rough - with so much illness when they are that little and I think if it's possible they benefit from more 1:1 care and being in their own home for naps. If I had the funds - I would do nanny for first 2.5 years and then transition to a preschool (or as they like to say on dcum a daycare with preschool curriculum).

Nanny. No question. Especially with winter/flu season around the corner. You have to take off so much work when your baby starts daycare due to the baby’s illnesses because of exposure in daycare. Plus a good nanny will make your life easier by doing all child-related chores like baby’s laundry and food. Daycare sends the baby home with poopy clothes and dirty food containers.

I would hire a nanny, if you can afford one. When your child is closer to three, you can reevaluate.

My child is two months old, and I will be going back to work at 4 months. We originally had planned to hire a short-term nanny for two months, and start daycare in January, but it’s been hard to find a nanny for only a couple of months. I think our only option is to start daycare sooner ( though we can’t get into our desired daycare until January), or hire a nanny for a longer period. We can afford a full-time nanny, but prefer to daycare, where we plan to keep our child through pre-k. What would you do?
