I've heard the same thing. I fail to see how drinking out of a hydroflask can be the marker of a social group. And I'm wearing an oversized t-shirt right now. Maybe I'm a VSCO girl and didn't know it?

Glad you asked this OP. I've been hearing about it from my 8th grade daughter as well and didn't know if it was really a widespread thing, or just something that is a subculture at her school.

Why do you hate hydroflasks?
They rattle and the kids constantly drop them or knock them over and because they’re hollow heavy metal they sound like a freaking bomb going off. SO distracting and it happens minimum 4/5 times per class.

My daughter likes to make fun of these girls and I have to remind her to be kind to everyone. She’s thinks it’s okay to laugh because it’s a popular trend. Not true.

My daughter has made negative comments about these girls, pointing them out to be at the mall. It made me cringe to hear her refer to some as “ basic”. We had a long talk about it. Hate the labeling and demeaning of any group.
