My daughter is 5 and has had severe reactions to mosquito bites since she was a baby. They have improved in the last year when she gets bit on the foot or leg but she currently has one on her eyebrow and her eye is almost swollen shut. The only thing that helps is liquid Benadryl.

I've had the same reaction my whole life and now DS 3 is the same. Our pediatrician told us to put ice on it right away and it will minimize the swelling and itching. It does work, if your child allows you to keep the ice in place for more than a few seconds. I've used this trick too before putting Benadryl cream on the bite. (These bites happen after we've used Picaridin, which is fantastic and we use whenever we spend time outside. Some mosquitoes are relentless!)

Zyrtec helps. I have this and so does one of my kids.

Same. My daughter is almost 7 and it has settled down a bit into a more normal reaction, too, but she still gets bitten more and has more of a reaction than anyone else in the family.

In kindergarten they called me, early in the school year, because she came in from recess with so many bites that were large, red, and angry. I started putting something on her before school until it got cold enough that it wasn't an issue.

My kid also reacts to the tiger mosquitos just being near her or landing on her - so she has a huge swelling reaction right after we're outside, but then doesn't have the lingering "bite" bump because she hasn't actually been bitten.

The swelling is still itchy and awful, but it's generally really temporary.

Same for me and my DD - we both have very sensitive skin. My DH and DS aren't affected nearly as much.

I'm the same, as is my 4-year-old. They swell up into irregular shapes, hot to the touch. And then later they get brown, like old bruises. Always a lovely look.

Same with my son. He’s 12 now and bites look “normal.” For me, who’s old, they are almost nonexistent.

It's a type of reaction for some kids and adults. And the tiger mosquitos are bad this year in some places.
We use 10% deet or 15% picardin ok arms and legs outside all the time.
Post bite apple cider vinegar and calamine help the itching. The worst is when they scratch the bites and they bleed and can become infected. Also keep my kids nails cut and filed short. She's 3.5 now but been dealing with it the whole time. I also swell up very large. My dh doesn't even notice something but him.

My 2 year old DD is getting lots of mosquito bites all of the sudden. And they look terrible on her. Large and swollen and angry. Is this a “thing” for young kids? And are the mosquitos suddenly worse?
