A good friend advised me to choose a hospital where they will take your baby to the nursery overnight so you can sleep between feedings. I'm glad I chose Sibley for that reason (in my case over Holy Cross, which is "Baby-Friendly" and encourages "rooming in").

None of the major DC hospitals have shared rooms—GW, Georgetown, Sibley, and WHC all have private rooms. So check that off your list of things to be concerned about, OP.

Keep in mind just because you pick a woman OB does not mean you will have a woman, let alone that particular woman, deliver your baby. I can't think of any woman-only practices. Closest you can get is to go with the midwives at GW and WHC--but if you get risked out and end up in the OB practice, you're back to potentially having a male OB deliver you.

Not considered high risk. Find and OB or Midwife that delivers at the hospital you want.

But keep in mind:
1)you will be going to LOTS of OB appts, especially towards the end. So pick a place that is convenient to where you spend most of your weekdays.
2) traffic is always a consideration. So don't pick a hospital that is going to be a pain to get to if you going into labor during rush hour. Most women have very long labors, so this usually isn't an issue (although I can't think of anything more hellish than being stuck in traffic and in labor). But some women have very quick labors, so you don't want to be too far.

I'm 6 weeks along and my doc no longer does deliveries...so I'm on the hunt for an OB/hospital for my delivery. Prefer a woman OB and in terms of hospital, I know I definitely want a private room, no roomies for me hell no. But other than that I don't really know what to look for or how to choose. I'm touring Sibley and GW next week, don't have time to tour any others.

Any recommendations or things to look for in both an OB and hospital?

fwiw, if it makes a difference, i'm 32, first pregnancy (if that wasn't obvious already), and got pregnant on my 4th IUI cycle! Don't think I should have high-risk pregnancy from these factors, but you never know. So far the first ultrasound is normal.
