What about parents paying for 1/2? Or 1/4? Do they get a half a phone call?

At my DCs LAC the students were required to call parents if they had an alcohol infraction (alcohol poisoning, hospitalization, underage drinking, etc.). Other than that there was no mechanism that I am aware of for the school to contact the parents about anything, nor did I expect them to. One of my DCs went to boarding school and I really didn't expect a college to oversee the kids like they are at boarding school.

They will be evaluated as an adult. They will be tried as an adult.

If YOU want to set daily check-ins or behavioral standards or whatnot, or you won't pay? Fine. That's one way to keep them in line.

As a university staff member, I find it laughable that you think faculty, staff, administrators and campus police have the time or capacity to not only tell your son or daughter to course-correct/knock it off, etc., but track down and notify parents as well.

You are paying for an adult's tuition to a college. You can decide not to pay if you want.

Why would adults be notified about the business of another adult? Your “kid” is now a legal adult even though you clearly don’t view them as such. Does your employer notify your parents when something happens to you?

When I was 18 I protested against something my parents believe in, and got arrested on campus. My parents were not contacted.

When I was 18 I got pregnant and got counseled at the student health center and they referred me to an abortion clinic when I decided that's what I wanted. My parents would not have approved and were not contacted.

I handled my own life without my parents, aside from paying for my education.

It’s your child’s personal business. Some kids call their parents to tell them they got into a jam/trouble, many kids don’t. It’s their own choice. I don’t see why their college would notify you just bc you pay tuition. Payment doesn’t equal right to know personal issues.

Your kid is 18. If your kid does have issues, it's going to be caused by your over controlling ways.

We pay for 100% of everything, yet the college won't warn parents about alarming behavior issues? The only way you know if your child is out of control is if they end up in the hospital or in police custody (and they choose to call you for bailout?), i.e. rock bottom? I understand there is a waiver or something, but shouldn't the default be parents are immediately informed of things like this?
