Why were you telling your SIL how she should raise her kids? I didn’t allow that when mine were young and didn’t go feed them fast food. This week we have been to two fast food restaurants and had ice cream. They are older now and it has been especially busy. We don’t usually do this.

I don’t care that my sister only gives her children sweets. I wish they would occasionally eat a vegetable but they are her children, not mine. You sound terrible, OP.

If I told my husband that our kids could never eat ice cream and such, he'd let me know it wasn't going to go down like that--and he's a very mild-mannered type who usually goes with whatever I want.

There’s something really wrong with you, OP. Trying to make yourself feel better by making your niece/nephew less healthy is beyond sick.

Ummm OP you didn't detail the restrictions but my kids have limits on all three items and I suspect most of the people we socialize with set some limits on all variety of sweets when it comes to their kids.

At some point your kids will have an allowance and some freedom to spend their money unsupervised but hopefully if you've raised them with reasonable limits on their consumption of treats they will make smart choices and self regulate themselves and not end up being blimps.

If it makes me a yuppie to be concerned about my kids health then please lump me in with your sister who sounds a lot smarter than you.
