APS and the School Board have promised many things over the last two years that never happened. Not sure why Reed-- which is the obvious, least disruptive location for an option school-- should be untouchable.

There was a formal board resolution that Reed would be neighborhood. They can’t just change course on a dime, they’d have to pass another formal board resolution with community participation, etc.

Yes. Moving around can happen and isn’t a big deal. Bigger picture means that option schools don’t go where the student density is high. This is the whole reason they are looking at changing Key.

Not sure where you’ve been the last few years, but Reed has been promised as a neighborhood school.

It seems one of the few consistent things the SB has said is they need Key to be a neighborhood school. With boundaries needing to be re-drawn next fall with Reed opening, they pretty mischievous have to decide where to move Key this fall. Maybe the practical deadline is when they open applications for option schools and transfers.

That process will be like all others. Disorganized. Confusing. But they now have to make the decision. No more punting.

DP. The pretty clear implication was that they’re looking to move immersion away from Key (but not to ASFS, swap is off the table).

I loved how Murphy clearly had no effs left to give. People (especially Goldstein) would try to punt responsibility for things to Murphy, and he was all, “Well, when you decided as a board action....”. The clear message was “This is your circus, and I am no longer your monkey.”

Option locations will be decided in December/January, and then in the spring they’ll be reviewing projections. Boundaries will be redrawn next fall.

Pretty sure Reid just confirmed that APS wasted the last 18 months screwing around with its location review and then the infamous “swap.” Good for him for acknowledging that APS wasn’t completely transparent with the community and caused a lot of unnecessary angst. And kudos for forcing Lisa Stengle to admit that swapping ASFS/Key doesn’t make sense after she was the swap’s biggest cheerleader and it was her office who produced the memos supporting the swap.

The one thing I couldn’t figure out, though, is what exactly is the timeline for picking school locations and then boundaries? Is it locations by this December, and then boundaries in the spring? That would be great if they would keep to such schedule but I am skeptical.
