They are definitely getting more than six months each.

Another parent in the same scandal, who plead GUILTY, was just sentenced to 4 months in prison. His bribe was also $100,000 lower than Lori and Massimo's.

Can anyone explain why they're looking at 50 years in prison? I'm sort of floored by this.

1. Because we've hypercriminalized everything.
2. Because notwithstanding #1, they're applying laws that were originally designed to catch gangsters.

They won't get 50. I hope they get >1 of actual time though. Presumably they're banking on the fact that they're popular, she's an actor, and they'll convince a juror (1) that they're just trying to do what was best for their kid and didn't have any idea of the bigger scam.

If they do get more than a year, I bet it'll be just a hair over -- over one year and you are eligible for early release for good behavior. I had a client sentenced to a year and a day for that reason; judge was being merciful, realized he'd get out early.

Even if they do get sentenced to a few years (which I doubt), they will be let out early because of overcrowding and because they plead health problems or some other manufactured excuse.

Among locals, “USC” is known as the University of Spoiled Children.

I hope they make an example of them by giving them real time.

It will be similar to disparate sentences we see for crack vs. powder cocaine. Since this is a white collar crime...

I would far prefer they get a HUGE fine and a small amount of jail time. I am not sure the laws as written would accommodate that. But they did break the law -- not by faking the athletic skills and test scores (that's a civil matter for USC and probably the College Board to pursue) but by knowingly and repeatedly violating the tax code (2 kids at 2 different times). They should be punished for taking tax deductions and funneling money to a fake 501(c)3 that they knew was not helping anyone but themselves.

They literally think this is what any parent would do.

Money laundering, conspiracy to violate tax law (knowingly giving a LOT of money to a fake 501c3 charity).

Lori Loughlin and her husband could face 50 years each in lockup for paying 500K in college admissions scam.
