Okay? Rush is like .5% of what being in a sorority is really like.

My best friends were made through the college choir, which was like a club although also a class. At the time, my college did not have a music major so choir was, for all of us, just a fun extracurricular.

I did make friends on my major through a club related to my major.

Which clubs, if you don't mind me asking?

But where did you meet them? Did they come from the dorm, did you know them from HS, or did you meet them from clubs?

I'm still friends with people I met as a tour guide and through campus ministry. Also still meet up with someone I met through a student worker job.

Clubs that were a source of close friends for me: ultimate frisbee (we'd play and then go out afterwards regularly), a language house my sophomore year pre-study abroad (where you live together and speak your target language) and study abroad, an outdoor group where we hiking/camping (about 3 weekend trips a year and an occasional longer one on a break), and theater productions (I was a non-major so that seemed club-like). Some of them stayed on as lifelong acquaintances/friends. But grad school and lots of moves made those less intense friendships over the years.

Most of my college friends were sourced from freshman hall, my major, and through club/intramural sports. I would place the sport teams on the same level as a club.

I met my best college friends while standing in line for something freshman year. No idea what it was!

I was in everything in college and was extremely active in dozens of clubs. The only friends I still had even 2 years out were sorority sisters. 15 years later we're still best friends.

Mine were a mix. My best friend (with whom I still vacation 30? years later) I met on my freshman hall, but then we were also active in the same group. The experience of the group is what solidified our friendship.

I know the standard advice for Freshmen is to join clubs to make friends, but in my experience that doesn't seem to work to well. Pretty much all of my close friends in college I met in the dorm, and later I made other friends through them. I joined a number of clubs, but honestly they just weren't active enough to get to know people well. I'm curious as to how most other people met their college friends. Was it mainly through dorm, sorority/ Fraternity, sports team, or did you make them through clubs?
