I would hold off on ordering a bunch of sizes. What about insoles in the future?

This. I'd buy the next size or two and at the same time keep looking for another shoe that will work.

Risky. Maybe buy one or two sizes for the near future, but after that, you don't know how it's going to go. Yes, they get opinionated about shoes. My DD wanted lace up shoes by 1st grade. She skipped a couple sizes. Even their foot shape changes. DD changed over to narrow size shoes.

OP, it's a complete waste of money to buy multiple pairs of shoes ahead. Your child could skip 1-2 sizes. Plus, they get opinions about shoes (mine did certainly by age 4). Plus, velcro does become babyish. One of mine stopped wearing velcro in K and the other in 1st.

Well, I'd caution you that kids feet can get really unpredictable starting rihtgh about where you are now.

For both my kids (a boy and girl) they were very very steady one size every size months until suddenly it was as if their feet grew two sizes in one weekend. I can't remember the specifics but I think my son jumped from 10-13 in one go, was only there a short time, then suddenly jumped to 2. My daughter was less extreme, but also started jumping sizes. She might have skipped 12 and went straight to 1.

Depending on how athletic he is and how much he starts to pay attention to sports stars (particularly basketball and soccer) he may start with preferences, but probably not until 6ish.

Maybe worth buying a few sizes, and selling them yourself if they go unworn.

I’d buy them so I didn’t have to worry about finding them. My 6 year old has Velcro sneakers and so do his friends.

Son is a size 9 now. Do I just buy in every size until 13? Now he’s a cute little preschooler- do they get more opinionated about shoe choice as they get into elementary, or will he wear whatever I put on his feet? How much choice and importance are involved with shoes? He is just starting to have an opinion about clothes, based on comfort.

Also- does Velcro start becoming babyish?
