How about you write down the phone numbers and put it in your wallet.

OP here. It's hard to learn their numbers because the phone wants to assist you. So. I've got one kid's phone memorized now--it helps that it starts 749 (and I think, ok, 7 squared is 49)

and then it's the two digit year I graduated from college, and the two digit year my mom got married. But my other kid...I can't find a good pattern.

I find I need to just jog my memory on the phone number every couple months or so since I'm not dialing it (since the phone shows her name, not her number) Maybe I'll add her number to her name like this: Larlo Smith 555-5555 for a nice visual.

I also don't know anyone's number, except my boss'

My worry is that I get arrested and have one phone call and can't call anyone... will the police help you look up a number? Probably not

Nope. I want to. I will start dialing it by hand, so I can learn it.

Yes, but it’s only one digit different than mine. That said, I know many landline numbers that people no longer have but not their cell numbers. Perhaps this is a wake up call.

DH is out of town. I get to the meeting and realize I don't have my cell on me, and I want to tell my teens when I'll be home. I decide to borrow someone's phone to text them, and I realize I don't know their cell numbers.

Of course they know mine, because I've beaten it into their heads, periodically quizzing them, on what my cell # is, in case they lose their phones and need to get in touch with me. But I never thought about, what if *I* lose or forget MY phone!

So do you know your kids phone numbers? How about your spouse/significant other's?

Yes, I do for my kids and my spouse.

That's good to be able to do. How many strangers do you think are going to let you use their phone to go onto the internet, log into Verizon, look up the info, get off the internet, then call?

OP makes a good point. In an emergency, it is better to just know the number/s.

Let’s say you didn’t have a phone with you and that someone didn’t have ten minutes to let you roam the internet on their phone...

Yes, and all numbers for best friends and family (DH, siblings, parents). I remember numbers easily... I did have an emergency years ago and had to call for help from a hospital pay phone and it was really helpful.

I periodically try to call it from memory and I’m pretty good about it, ever since I read an article about a guy who was stuck by the side of the road with his girlfriend and the only phone number he actually remembered was his ex’s....
