I have this arrangement! It’s wonderful. Our neighbor hired a full time nanny for 45 hours per week for her infant. I only need 18 hours per week for my infant (3 months older). The nanny agreed to watch my little guy for the 18 hours a week at a higher hourly rate. We split that rate with the host family. It is a win win because we are saving the host family about $200 per week, and the kids get socialization. The nanny does a great job with both of them and we have synchronized their nap schedules so the nanny gets two solid breaks each day. It is pretty ideal! The secret is lots of open communication (all three parties) on the front end so that everyone’s expectations are managed. You have to iron out details like how to handle sick days, drop off and pick up routines, sharing food/wipes/diaper cream/etc. We feel so lucky!

+1 But you just need to recognize that someone who wants to do nanny shares wants to reduce their costs, so you may be less attractive than a family who wants to share 5 days.

We're in the market to have a nanny for Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Bethesda area if that that could help anyone.

Has anyone successfully set up a part-time nanny share? We might have some help from the grandparents and since it doesn't seem like any daycares in DC will do part-time, our best option might be to try and set up a nanny share for 3 days per week. Is this feasible?
