If it's really soaked you won't get the smell out without getting it professionally cleaned at a detailer as someone said above.

once it dries and if it smells cover the seat with baking soda and vacuum up a day or so later. If you need to use the car during this time put a towel over the baking soda.

It’s trashed now. Call the junkyard.

Just put a towel down on his car seat when you pick him up. It will be hot and sunny tomorrow, leave the windows open and let it dry out.

You are in luck OP - overnight, the humidity and dew points will drop considerably. Open all the windows, let the dry air suck all the moisture out. Then maybe put in a car air freshener on your rear view mirror.

If you don't need to drive anywhere, take the car seat out and let it try out over the next day or two. If you do need to drive, then draw out as much moisture as reasonably feasible, and kiddo will be fine if his seat is a little damp.

I did that one day. I immediately took the car to the expensive car wash and paid them to shampoo the entire interior of the car. It cost a lot but was worth it, no smell at all afterwards.

DS asked me to open his window on the way to daycare today. I did, then neglected to close it when I got back home. Looked out the front window an hour ago and saw it. His car seat and upholstery are wet. I guess my only consolation is that it could have been worse had I not been teleworking, otherwise I would have parked at the metro and not realized until 6pm this evening. What should I do- pull the car seat out and then air the car out tomorrow? I hate funky “old car” smells and don’t want my car to end up like that!
