I have returned an assembled piece to Ikea I ordered online, no box. IIRC, Ikea sent a truck to pick it up. It wasn't an issue.

If you bought from the store, you would probably have to return it to the store.

SO EASY! I returned a sofa, fully assembled, that I had had for more than 10 months. I didn't have the original receipt, so I called the 1-800 number and they found my original receipt for me and I printed it out.

Hmm. That seems problematic. I’d keep trying to call or chat/email.

No, the policy says "if possible, the packaging." It's not possible because it's been recycled. They will sell your item in the As-Is section with no box. I wouldn't even take it apart, honestly. If you get there and they're sticklers, just take it apart there in the store. But you 100% have to have the receipt. We got stuck with two doors because I lost the receipt. They were still fully unopened in the boxes and I had my debit card statement to show, but they wouldn't do the return. Lesson learned.

2nd all this as an experienced IKEA returner. Only exception is if you are in the loyalty program (IKEA family) then they can look up your purchases without the receipt.

I would love to go to IKEA & browse an “As-is” assembled furniture section.

That would be awesome.

I like a lot of IKEA’s stuff - - I just suck at assembling stuff.
This would be great.

I scored 2 Hemnes dressers at a great price there, fully assembled.

I think the reason most people disassemble is because otherwise the pieces are too large to transport back to the store. There are sometimes interesting things in the as-is - combination of returns and floor items.

Honestly returning anything to ikea is like visiting the outer rings of hell. The line is long and painfully slow. Nobody has their receipt etc and/or the computer system is always down. I would try to sell it in my neighborhood or on Craigslist before attempting the return, knock off however much you will spend in gas and your time and someone will probably buy it since it’s brand new AND assembled.

Ok so on the website does that mean it can be assembled while return? Or just that it was assembled previously and taken apart. PP says it has to be disassembled.

Thanks everyone!!

Go right when they open because they get very busy.

Here is the return policy from their website

It’s OK to change your mind

For a full refund, you can return your products within 365 days, even if you assembled them, as long as they’re in an unused and re-saleable condition. Please return them with proof of purchase and, if possible, the packaging.

If the return criteria are not fully met, we may refuse the return or offer an exchange or an IKEA Refund Card.

This policy is in addition to your statutory rights and IKEA commercial guarantees.

It does have to be disassembled but they will take it back no questions asked. We bought and assembled the 4X4 Kallax that was all wrong for our dining room, it was just waaaay too big. We then disassembled it, which was a huge pain and quite dangerous. It was heavy and lurched everywhere and nearly fell on me when we tilted it down. Pretty much fell apart in the process of disassembly. But we stuck all the pieces back in the box and they took it back with no issues.

I have seen assembled returns in the As-is, I have no idea what the process is there. We were told the item would have to be taken apart and boxed back up.

Note* I’ve tried calling the help line 5 times and it says “too busy” and kicks me off. Just want to know from your personal experience.

Never done it before but I hate a big piece of furniture I just bought. Do I have to disassemble it? Is it easier to take it back to the store or have them come pick it up, and is that an extra fee?
