It sounds like you already have the answer (new daycare), but just want reassurance? Make your life easier.

New daycare for sure! I don't believe in using daycares further than 7 min from home. Life is too short and my kids scream too loud.

How old is the kid? Unless the new daycare sucked, I would definitely make the switch.

We did a transition when my daughter was 2.5 because we moved. We talked up the change (made it seem like she was switching from daycare to preschool because she was such a big grownup girl) and took her by there a couple of times so she could get used to the idea, and the first week was a short week. She adjusted really well.

Daycare needs to be close to home or close to work. It needs to be convenient, otherwise it’s too much trouble.

How old is your child? Generally my vote would definitely be for closer daycare especially if that gains you 1-2 hrs more a day with your child. That is gold! As long as you think they are both good quality. It’s a balance but if they are fairly equal I wouldn’t worry about the transition - worth it.

This is a no brainer if the closer daycare is even close to being good. Save the time. We had a daycare that we loved that was 30ish minutes from our house. At the time we chose it, it was a compromise - it was on the way home from my job, and DH could drop off and hop on the metro. I then started working from home, and that hour round-trip to drop them off just sucked. After a fire destroyed the building, we ended up somewhere that was ~15 minutes away from our house. Even saving that 30 minutes in the AM and PM was a life changed. Your son will be fine if you switch, I promise.

Keep him where he is. Why shake up his world now? He’ll be starting school soon enough.

We drive 30 mins round trip twice a day to do pickup/dropoff at a place we love. No regrets at all. But this is our second and final year doing it.

How much worse is the other one? I think having one close to your house is really important. Ours is only a 5 min drive and it makes a big difference when DD hasn’t napped and is super cranky. The last thing I want to do on those days is sit in traffic for a long time.

How old is he? So how much longer is he going to be in daycare? Are you going to have other kids? What are your plans for PreK or other school?

Help me decide my life DCUM

Dilemma: Currently, I am driving an extra 30min out of my way to drop off DS at daycare, he has been there since he was 2.5 months. Anyway, I need something closer to home

What to decide: would you keep your child at the daycare you sorta love, for the sake of stability and being comfortable with teachers xyz

Or would you switch closer to home and save at least two hours each day.

Oh, current daycare is $1,700
new daycare: $1,600

Help me decide please
