Uh, if you can see breast buds through her shirt, she needs another layer.

This isn't going to be PC but the girls that age who need them (I only have boys) are the chubby ones.

When you say “girls that age,” I assume you mean 8 year olds and not 12 year olds. Because many slim 12 year olds have developing breast buds. 8, maybe less so, though I am sure there are plenty of non-chubby 8 year olds in that boat.

Yes, 8 yr olds.

You need the ped's input, because this is on the early side for puberty and the ped might want to do bloodwork and start keeping track of changes.

Puberty has come earlier and earlier around the world because of nutrition/obesity and hormone disruptors found in plastics and treated clothing.

Why do we need to tell girls that their bodies' changes are harmful and need to be hidden?

OP here and this is our issue. I’ve gotten her the shelf bras. I’m glad to see it’s maybe not as rare as it seems. Thanks to all who replied.

My 9 year old wears one and started at 8. I thought it was early too, but a lot of her friends wear them as well.

I was worried about this too with my oldest. She needed one of those little racerback shelf bras at that age. She still didn't get her period till a few months after 12 though. I was really worried she was going to be menstrating by 10! Also her breast aren't huge. I was also worried she would be a DD and have back problems. They seemed to "bud" at 12 and grow a lot between 11 and 13 but otherwise aren't terribly big.

Some do who have "buds". The little sports bra things make them feel more comfortable. IF she needs one, get one.

Yes, that's early. No, my 8 and 10 yr olds don't wear them.

No need, but some of her friends do-the sport cami style seems to be the go to.

Mine has no need for one, but I think this is in the range of normal for puberty right? Better prepare yourself.

In certain shirts, mine needs one. Isn’t this a little early?
