This was painful to watch. Couldn't he just say 4x10=40 and that we don't move the decimal point, but we move the number. He should show the number moving over and not the point. Seems like it is un-doing earlier teaching, where moving the "decimal point" to the right, was taught.
Not Eureka-specific. That’s the Common Core objective. The goal - agree with it or not - is to develop number sense and various modes of expression vs memorization. It is useful far down the line in computer programming, which all students need to be able to do to some extent. It is very different from the way I was taught but I am not convinced it is bad (parent of 2 HS students who went They this, one who is headed off to college next week well prepared).

NY is dumping the common core and moving to "world class" standards...kid you not. This is why I like charter schools...in regular public schools by the time.one size fits all gets to the kids, they are already changing it. A charter can develop its own curriculum and not be driven by mandates and Texas publishing houses.
In other words they are changing the name due to all the fake news bad press, but the actual standards -- the goals for what kids should know-- will be the same, look closely. It is all politics, but in the end, the kids are learning the same things. The curriculum is simply which book are they using and which teaching methods to they like. But in the end, everyone is learning the same basic academics.

It can create a new curriculum or develop their own, but it still must align to Common Core.
And for those who suggest Eureka is why Math scores weee down across the bird, Mass has the strongest schools in the country overall.
