Oyster is tiny, about 60 students graduate each year. And only half of them go to Wilson.
I know...just giving another one. And I'd like to know the exact numbers because I bet it is higher. Also, my child - rising 9th grader - went to Deal. She can count on one hand the number of people she knows not going to Wilson. Walls has lost its shine to quite a few.

My recollection is a significant proportion of Wilson 9th graders get held back (Maybe 40%?). So the number of 9th graders each year is quite a bit bigger than the number of incoming 9th graders. You have to be careful you're doing an apples-to-apples comparison.

Anecdotally, we know close to 10 8th graders who picked Wilson over Walls. This can't be helping.

Not the OP but I am also interested. DC's political class seems to have zero interest in talking on the coming enrollment crises at Wilson. It would be good to learn that the freshman class size is down from last year because at this point we know there is no chance the DC Council will ever take this up.
Let me ask you a real question. If DC’s political class made a move that meant you’d be zoned out of Wilson, would that be ok with you?

Blame whomever you wish. That is the reality and a fix, even if mandated now, is 7-8 years off (grandfathering or decision to build/renovate and create a new HS (or renovate something) for the current feeder path.
Accept it, choose an application or charter school, move, apply to a private school.

It is not. Another thread said the incoming class is 700. I doubt that. My hunch is it is about the same as last year. I also do not think it is a crisis.
For those who don’t want a really big school and everything (good and bad) that comes with that, there are many other DCPS options. There is no way Wilson will become significantly smaller over the next four years.
