OP here — in case anyone finds this thread later. I had a complete previa at 18 weeks but it had resolved itself by my follow-up ultrasound at 26 weeks, so I’m back to no complications (for the moment). Thanks to everyone who replied and shared their stories! <3

I had partial previa that resolved by 30ish wks; two friends had complete previa that resolved closer to 36-38 wks, and one had previa that didn’t resolve and required an emergency C sec— but she and the baby are both totally fine and healthy. I would focus on the statistics— it’s relatively common, and with a few precautions, has good outcomes for both mama and baby. Good luck!

I did! Pelvic rest from 16-36 weeks when it finally resolved itself.

I had it with my first child. It moved at 32 weeks and I had an uneventful vaginal delivery! I did have a lot of ultrasounds at an MFM office and a big terrifying bleed around 20 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your stories! It’s great to hear that regardless of whether the placenta previa persisted you all had safe births and healthy kids and manageable pregnancies. Hearing these stories (and getting some sleep!) makes me feel a lot better.

I had a complete previa. It did not move. I also got lots of extra monitoring by the mfm. I didn't have any bleeding until 35 weeks when I had sudden and large amount of bleeding--whether it was a hemorrhage or not was never determined, but I didn't bleed excessively after the c-section and didn't need a blood transfusion, so probably not. Anyway, I had an emergency c-section and it all turned out fine. The mfm was pretty clear that this is what he though would happen--and I'd actually been scheduled for a c-section at 37 weeks anyway, but I did have two steroids shots at 32 weeks for lung development reasons as a precaution, which probably helped.

I had previas for both of my pregnancies. The first time it resolved itself and I had a vaginal delivery. The second time, it did not move enough and I had a scheduled c section at 36+5. I did have a hemorrhage but my OB was able to get it under control. I also had a bleeding episode around 32 weeks caused by contractions that I couldn’t feel. These were controlled with medication and I made it to the c section without further incident.

I think pelvic rest and travel restrictions are standard. Your OB may advise additional restrictions if you have bleeding episodes. My experience was very similar to PP’s at 21:53; multiple bleeding episodes and a couple hospitalizations. After being hospitalized I was on modified bed rest. Good luck, OP! Most previas move, and it’s probably a good sign that your OB said it “might” be a problem. I had complete previa at the anatomy scan and they told me it was unlikely to move.

8:07 here. That sound similar to my restrictions. I couldn’t lift a lot of heavy things also, but I asked them to clarify since I had a 16 month old and needed to lift him into his car seat, crib, etc. They said that was fine but to not overdo it. I had another ultrasound at 32 weeks and that’s where it was determined that it had resolved itself.

Out of curiosity what levels of restriction did everyone have? At the moment they said I was fine to carry on with everything except vaginal penetration and not to go further than a few hours from medical care, but it sounds like things might get more restrictive into the third trimester if the condition continues?

I had complete previa that did not move. Was blessed not to have any bleeding but worried so much about that. Made it full term to planned C-section. Was complicated as the placenta was also in the area where the incision is made for the C-section. Had two OBs in the surgical room and everything went perfectly! We were blessed with a beautiful (and healthy!) baby girl.

Just be sure to do exactly as the OB says. Do not overdo it. Good luck and fingers crossed that the placenta moves (it usually does).

Thank you! At first I was a lot calmer but then I made the mistake of doing research late at night and started going down rabbit holes of terrifying complications. Good to know that even if it doesn’t move there aren’t necessarily huge repercussions! I have another appointment in a few weeks so I’ll ask then about whether it’s complete or partial at the moment.

I had it with my second. Had to be on pelvic rest for the rest of my pregnancy. But it resolved itself. Didn’t matter because I had a planned c section but it does actually move. Ask your doctor if it’s a complete previa right now or just partial.

I had it with my second child. For many people it does resolve, but not with mine. I had breakthrough bleeding, despite being on modified bedrest. This happened about 4 times and it was scary, requiring hospitalization. You have to get to a hospital fast because it's a fountain of blood. But it doesn't hurt at all. I was just getting orange juice from the fridge and then bam. It would happen like that. You're not supposed to travel, exercise or exert, etc. The c section was honestly like a walk in the park compared to my long labor and vaginal delivery with forceps for my first. C section was awesome.

Anyone have this? I just got told it might be a problem at my 18 week ultrasound, and while most statistics are reassuring (high chance of the placenta moving), if it persists it looks like I’m definitely due for a preterm c section with high chance of hemorrhage, and a reasonable chance of major issues. Anyone have experience with this? Did your placenta move? Or conversely, did your c section go okay? Prior to this I was so sure I was good with whatever would lead to a healthy birth but now that it’s a very real possibility, I’m realizing I’m kind of terrified of a c section. The things we learn when circumstances move out of our control.
