BTDT. The college women leave ever semester because of scheduling changes and aren’t available over their long holiday and semester breaks. We went thru three in a year and only one was reliable and good.

The problem I see with your idea is that it would be hard to find someone, people leave these jobs without notice and it is hard to replace them. Add to it that you will pay a lot and that you pay for camp up front and won’t get a refund if your sitter quits and you have to find a new option. Much easier to find a camp with before and aftercare. It likely won’t be nearly as expensive as the plan you are trying to put together.

I did this over the summer. I could have done it during the school year but I feared she might quit and would be scrambling.

I had a nanny with a split schedule for around 4 years. She lived with us in our basement apartment which I think can help make it worth their while. She basically got very cheap housing.

It my experience its not hard to find someone...its hard to keep someone! Girls ditch these jobs ASAP. When they get an internship, when they get a boyfriend, when they have a harder schedule and can't handle it, etc etc. I also agree the hourly has to be high bc its not a lot of hours offered. I finally just stacked PTO and took 1.4 hours of PTO most of the summer.

It’s the help that everyone wants, OP. The hardest position to fill and hands-down the most expensive. You have to pay to make that split schedule worth it to anyone. And we are talking $30 plus an hour.

Possible to find someone but your pay a premium and as with anything no guarantee the person will stick around.

Many people would be interested. I just graduated from a local university. Many of my friends took summer classes so this would be a great way to make money. Reach out to University’s.

We are planning for next summer and are thinking through options. We have a summer camp my oldest enjoys and is affordable. We want to send both kids now that our younger one is old enough to attend. The issue is a timing issue. Camp runs 9-3 (M-F). We made it work by flexing our schedules but that isn't possible next year. What I was thinking of is hiring someone to come in the morning at 8. They would take the kids to camp and be done at 9 (You can drop off at 8:45). Then, that person would pick them up at 3, take them home, and then spend from 3-6 with them. Maybe swimming, reading, etc.

How would someone go about finding a person to do this sort of job? Is it a crazy idea that no one would be interested in?
