If you are at all able to offer any kind of donation in exchange for the cat it will significantly sweeten the offer. People suck. One of my cats was dumped by people who moved.
We had a younger stray cat (clearly had been a pet) show up to our house a few years ago in NOVA without any indication of where the cat belonged (and was not micro-chipped). We could not take her in, and it was the heat of the summer. I probably called 15 rescue organizations who didn't have the ability to rescue this cat. We finally found one who was willing to rescue her after I was clear in my initial conversation that i was willing to spend $100 to sponsor the cat. The fact is that these organizations work extremely hard and only have limited resources. Generally providing a donation does significantly up the chances of success.
