We had a younger stray cat (clearly had been a pet) show up to our house a few years ago in NOVA without any indication of where the cat belonged (and was not micro-chipped). We could not take her in, and it was the heat of the summer. I probably called 15 rescue organizations who didn't have the ability to rescue this cat. We finally found one who was willing to rescue her after I was clear in my initial conversation that i was willing to spend $100 to sponsor the cat. The fact is that these organizations work extremely hard and only have limited resources. Generally providing a donation does significantly up the chances of success.

They may have been able to wipe their hands clean of this cat, but not the karma that is following them wherever they went to.

A former neighbor owned a cat they found on a farm. They moved and left the cat. The cat is not up to date on shots and is not fixed. It is basically abandoned at this point. Doesn't sound like it ever received shots, a microchip, or any other vet treatments. It keeps coming to my yard because we have cats of our own.
