Can someone explain why I should be in favor of basically eliminating immigration laws that I have to abide by in every other country? Is the US to become the a Australia of old, where all the criminals can come here without legal papers and be able to stay? I'm in favor of immigration but it seems like it should be for those who followed the rules and not those playing the game.

This is a big issue to me and it will impact my vote. Are there any Democrat candidates who I can support?

No one is in favor of no immigration laws. No one WANTS illegal immigration. Well, except the business owners (mostly republicans) who want to take advantage of cheap, illegals in their hell houses of employment.

Spoken like a true liberal. The Dems know that in 20 years, the anchor babies of the illegals will be voting 80% Democrats.

Can you link an article that says most employers of illegal immigrants are Republicans? Any person in business is likely to use illegal labor to keep a competitive advantage. I'm sure most companies in agriculture, construction and service couldn't survive without doing it regardless of political affiliation.

Yup! And the Ds are so out of touch that they don't realize this. What they are bacsically saying is "vote for me because I will give benefits to people who break into our country illegally."

Sorry, not a winning campaign message.

Unfortunately this is right. Democrats are misreading the voters on this issue. There is a difference between treating people with dignity while still sending them back to their country of citizenship and amnesty where we also give free education and healthcare to anyone who can run across the border or overstay their visa. Most want the former- to treat people humanely but still send them back even if they:
- "only" committed the crime of crossing the border illegally or overstaying their visa
- had children here
- been here for 20+ years
- like hotdogs and apple pie
-coach little league

There was a bi-partisan bill passed in the Senate in 2013. The GOP controlled House refused to take it up at all. Let's start there. That is what most of the democratic candidates have said.

How so? Biden said he wants to give health care to illegals (when many in the middle class can't even afford Obamacare)! Moderates will not vote for someone who wants to provide more enticements for illegals to swarm in.

Biden said they can get emergency care... Which they already do at emergency rooms since hospitals can't turn them away. Biden is not offering them health insurance (ACA didn't either).

FWIW, OP, you, as an American, can pretty much go anywhere in the world without issue. Most non-Europeans, have great difficulty just getting a visa to vacation in the U.S., much less immigrate.

Probably because "vacations" turn into visa overstays for those who are able to get visas.

I've travelled all over and have no desire to live anywhere other than the US. I appreciate the ease with which Americans can travel but that probably because countries want our vacation dollars but know we are likely not skipping out on our flight home.

I agree OP. Biden is probably our best bet. I still thought President Obama's DACA program was too lenient and caused more people to flood here with their children in hopes of amnesty but his approach (with Biden) is far far better than any of the other current democratic candidates.

This country needs to combine President Obama's efficiency for deportations with some of the programs Trump has implemented (waiting in Mexico, cutting out welfare for undocumented, raising the standard for the credible fear interview so that 99% of people don't pass initially and then either disappear or only 10-15% are actually granted asylum, hiring more judges, putting judges right on the border, etc)

I'm a Democrat on every issue but not illegal immigration. I really don't get it.
